Meet the contenders

The finer details
Couple: Simone Stobbs and Shaun Greenwood
Date: 10th March, 2012
Venue: De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton

The day
The spring weather smiled on Simone and Shaun's big day, adding an extra touch of magic to their sunny orange and lilac colour scheme and pretty butterfly theme. “The weather was really beautiful,” says Simone. “We had lovely blue skies, which meant the guests could have drinks outside, which was extra nice.”

Memorable moments
“I will always remember my husband's speech, and how emotional and heartfelt it was, particularly as he is not usually a very emotional person,” Simone recalls. “The best man also read out a whole page of lovely messages from members of our family in South Africa, who couldn't be with us on the day.”

The finer details
Couple: Hannah James and Luke Geere
Date: 11th February, 2012
Ceremony: Dorchester Register Office
Reception: Prezzo Restaurant, Dorchester

The day
“We based our colour theme of navy blue and red on my husband's uniform,” explains Hannah. “He had only been in the Royal Marines for six months, and our wedding day was only the second time I'd seen him in his uniform. I cried when I saw him.”

Memorable moments
“I was 32 weeks pregnant with our daughter Molly and I found all the speeches particularly emotional. It was the first time I'd seen my husband cry as well,” says Hannah. “We only had a small reception for close family and friends. We booked the whole of the upstairs at the restaurant and it was really intimate and relaxed. It was a beautiful, sunny day which really made it special and meant we were able to get some great photographs.”

The finer details
Couple: Karen Goodfellow and Dougie Ingleby
Date: 15th October, 2011
Ceremony: St Mary the Virgin Church, Bradford Abbas
Reception: Stockbridge Farm Barn

The day
Karen and Dougie's rustic wedding was full of special details to reflect their farming backgrounds. “The reception was in a beautiful medieval barn and we included this in our theme with a pig roast and by decorating the walls with both of our coat of arms,” says Karen. “We had lots of country details for a harvest festival feel, such as sheaves of corn, apples, small logs to hold the menus and fir cones for the place names.”

Memorable moments
Dougie is Scottish and the couple met while living in New Zealand. “A lot of people travelled from New Zealand to the wedding, as well as from Scotland and Europe. It was the first time in five years that we had all our families together in one spot, which was one of the most special things about the day for both of us,” adds Karen.

The finer details
Couple: Kimberley Rowe and Daniel Sherwood
Date: 1st October 2011
Ceremony: Holy Rood Church, Stubbington
Reception: The Alverbank Country House Hotel, Gosport

The day
Kimberley and Daniel didn't bank on their October wedding turning out to be one of the hottest days of the year. “I chose aubergine and hot pink for my colour scheme because I thought it would be warm and seasonal.” says Kimberley. “However, it was a glorious day and we went on the beach after the ceremony.”

Memorable moments
“The photo shoot on the beach gave us time together after the ceremony to relax and have fun. We walked from the hotel to the sea and flagged down a passing motorist in a beautiful blue open top car, and he allowed us to pose for pictures behind the wheel,” adds Karen. “It was a truly perfect day in every way.
